No fibre on moving day

If fibre broadband is not ready on moving day (indflytningsdag), a 5G router can keep you online in the meantime. It runs on the mobile network and works the same day it arrives in the post. For some households it is not just a bridge but the right solution. Choose it by lock-in period (binding), not by introductory offer. The figures here were read in September 2026. What 5G broadband costs right now

The introductory offers are the same as you see on fibre: 99 to 149 kr. for the first 3 to 6 months, then 279 to 349 kr. Count twelve months: Oister is cheapest in the first year at 2.508 kr., Yousee the most expensive at 3.588 kr. Airbox is the only one with no lock-in and no introductory offer: 249 kr. every month, and you can stop the day your fibre is up and running.

Bridge or permanent solution

As a bridge, the maths is simple: if you have to wait six weeks for fibre, Airbox costs you 498 kr. for two months, and then you are free. A subscription with a six-month lock-in at 99 kr. sounds cheaper, but costs 2.948 kr. in the first year, and you are stuck with it long after the fibre has been installed. As a permanent solution, 5G suits households with ordinary use (streaming, working from home, school) at addresses with good 5G coverage, especially where fibre is not available, and in a holiday home. It is a poor fit for gaming, large uploads and homes with many devices in use at once, where fibre wins on stability and upload.

The practical side

Check the 5G coverage at the exact address with the provider before you order; coverage maps are rough, and a house in a hollow behind a hill can have a poor connection even if the next street has full coverage. Order a week before you move in, so the router is ready and waiting. Put the router in a window facing the nearest mast, not in the utility room. If the connection does not work at the address, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal (fortrydelsesret) when you order online or by phone; use it rather than getting stuck with a lock-in. And order fibre at the same time if it is available at the address: the waiting time only starts once the order has been placed. The coverage check shows both at once. What many people misunderstand

5G broadband and mobile broadband are not the same as sharing your phone's data: the router has its own subscription with unlimited data. On the other hand, the "up to" figure is more elastic than on fibre; the speed drops when the neighbours stream in the evening. The lock-in is the other trap: cancel in good time before the lock-in period ends, otherwise the subscription runs for another month.
