Broadband at the new address

The seller's subscription does not come with the home, and neither does the price. Broadband is the fixed cost of moving where the address matters most: the same product from the same provider costs different amounts from street to street, because the price follows the network in the ground. Sammenligner.dk looked up one private address in each of the country's 99 municipalities and compared 1.539 offers from 11 providers. If the fibre cannot be ready in time, 5G broadband as a bridge can keep you online, and the full plan is in the guide to internet and TV when moving.

Why the same product costs different amounts

The fibre to your address is owned by one company (an energy company, TDC Net or a local fibre network), and the providers rent access to it. The rent differs from network to network, and that feeds through to your price. In the survey, one and the same fibre product cost 2.388 kr. in the first year in Høje-Taastrup and 5.148 kr. on Ærø on the same day; the figures under Short answer are the cheapest offer in each municipality, which is lower than the most expensive single product. If you are on coax (the cable TV network) or copper, the choice is smaller and prices are typically higher, and a number of copper addresses are being shut down in these years; read about the copper network shutdown if you are buying an older home without fibre.

Nationwide: what gigabit fibre costs right now

Without an address, you can only see the providers' own list prices, and they are worth knowing as a starting point before you look up the address. Note that the introductory offer is short with most providers (3-6 months), so the figure that matters is the price for the first year, not the price in the advert. Bornfiber has the lowest first-year price at 2.748 kr., but only supplies Bornholm, Zealand and the islands; Hiper is the lowest among the nationwide providers at 3.348 kr., and Norlys the highest at 4.887 kr. for the same speed.

The practical side

Look up the new address as soon as the purchase is in place, not the week before you move in. The waiting time for a fibre connection is several weeks, and longer if digging is needed. A coverage check shows which networks and which providers can actually supply the address, and what it costs right there. Cancel your current subscription with the right notice so you do not pay twice; after the lock-in period, the notice period may be no more than one month. Check whether the router is included in the price or rented separately (all providers in the table above include it), and remember that you have a 14-day right of withdrawal (fortrydelsesret) when you order online or by phone. Add the task to your moving plan together with your change of address. TV packages follow the same rule: the seller's subscription does not come with the home, and the choice depends on the network in the street. If your current provider has coverage at the new address, you can often take the subscription with you; see how to move your broadband. Most new addresses end up on fibre; see what fibre broadband costs and covers. If you only need to be online until the digging is finished, look at broadband with no lock-in period.

What many people misunderstand

"Up to 1000 Mbit" is a technical limit, not a promise, and most households notice no difference between 300 and 1000 Mbit. Pay for the speed you use; see which speed you need. The other mistake is choosing on the introductory price: 99 kr. for three months and 339 kr. for nine is 3.348 kr. in the first year, while 339 kr. for six and 439 kr. for six is 4.668 kr. Always work out the cost twelve months ahead, and check what the price will be in year two, when the introductory offer has ended with every provider. If you do not have fibre on moving-in day, there is an interim solution: 5G broadband as a bridge to fibre.
